What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda which literally means ‘science of life’, is based on the the study of Natural Laws. Man is part of nature and the laws that govern nature are the same as the laws that govern man. The principles of Ayurveda, being founded on the laws of nature are unchanging. Ayurveda principles are applicable to any human community, anywhere in the world as they are based on the functioning of nature’s laws in the human body-mind complex. Ayurveda has a preventive, as well as a therapeutic approach to the management of health and disease.
About the Speaker
An Ayurveda Consultant, Madam Heang Sen Yein will be giving a talk on Ayurveda (an ancient wisdom on Science of Life). Madam Heang was formerly a nurse working in Australia for over twenty years. She is now an Ayurveda Practitioner and she has been giving numerous talks in Malaysia and Singapore.
Note: This talk is not an approach to Direct Selling scheme, and Mdm. Heang is not a representative for any products/brands or any direct selling venture.As a matter of fact most of the ingredients recommended by her can be easily obtained from our local pharmacy or Indian spice shop.

Pepper Rasam
Description : Pepper Rasam (Kurumullake Rasam)
Cuisine Style : Tamil Nadu Cuisine
Ingredients
Black peppercorns - 2 tsp
Cumin seeds(Jeerakam) - 2 tsp
Lentils - 1 tbsp
Dried red chillies(Kollamulaku) - 2 nos
Asafoetida(Kaayam) - 1 piece
Tamarind(Puli) paste - 1 tbsp
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Curry leaves - 5 nos
Oil - 1 tbsp
Preparation Method
1)Roast the pepper, lentil and chillies together in a pan till they become golden brown.
2)Add cumin seeds and grind them together to a powder.
3)In a separate bowl, mix the tamarind paste (if not paste, remove the pieces of tamarind after 15 minutes in the water) in 4 cups of warm water.
4)Add salt and asafoetida, boil the water for a few minutes.
5)Mix in the powder from above and boil for about 5 minutes.

Coconut Chutney Recipe
Description : A side dish for dosas and idlis.

Bengal gram(Kadalaparippu)
(puffed) - 1/2 cup
Grated coconut - 1 cup
Green chillies - 4 nos
Ginger - 1/2 inch piece
Tamarind pulp - 1 tsp
Salt - As reqd
Oil - 1 tsp
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Asafoetida(Kayam) - A pinch
Curry leaves - A few
Preparation Method
1)Take puffed Bengal gram and put it in a blender to grind it into a fine powder.
2)Add grated coconut, ginger, green chillies, tamarind juice and water.
3)Grind it to a paste and add salt.
4)Transfer the contents into a bowl.
5)Finally, season with mustard seeds, a pinch of asafoetida and curry leaves.
:-Serve with hot idlis and dosas.
